The history of the Catholic Church in the United States

The Spanish Missions in the west . . . the French Jesuits in the Northeast . . . unfortunately had little significance.

And so we begin in Colonial times . .  beyond who did what, where and when . . .
We will probe how this American culture of democracy . . . freedom . . . (especially of religion). . .individualism, interacted with a church hanging onto a European model of governance and of piety.  

How has the American culture influenced the Church?   This will be the focus of our sessions.
